Fab FADs photo – comp winner, winner, chicken… Stella!

How’s this for a ripper fishing photo!?

Recfishwest gives a big shout-out Beau Suladra, who is now the proud owner of a new Shimano Stella 5000XG, after winning our FADs photo competition.

Beau entered the photo of himself and a dolphinfish, which was snapped by his brother Cody Suladra, at the Perth Game Fishing Club (PGFC) metro FADs, to claim the top prize worth more than $1,000.

The Recfishwest panel, which had the tough task of judging the competition’s array of high-quality entries, thanked everyone who participated.

Recfishwest Operations Officer Aaron Moses said Recfishwest was pleased to receive a good collection of photos of fish caught at the metro (including the PGFC ones), Cape Naturaliste, Albany, Exmouth and Broome FADs.

“As promised, Beau wins a Shimano Stella 5000XG and we are sure that he will be putting it to good use very soon,” Aaron said.

“Overall, from the reports and capture pics on the FADs we have received, along with a steady stream of social media and YouTube videos, we are thrilled to be able to report much of the trial program has proven successful so far.

“But to make sure we can develop the FADs program into the future, we continue to need further evidence of their success.

“So, please keep sending us your snaps of fish caught off the FADs and any feedback with which you can provide us.”

The competition’s rules were simple and given the three-year State-wide FADs program trial is still in its first year, photo evidence of the different fish species caught at the FADs helps determine how well each location is faring.

Fishing photos from the FADs help the Recfishwest team gauge the trial’s success to underpin the program and ensure it continues well into the future.

While Perth, Cape Naturaliste and Albany’s FADs have been retrieved for the winter and will remain on land until November, the Exmouth FADs are still in the water and teeming with fish.

More hard-fighting pelagic species are also expected to be caught at the Broome FADs, after the devices were deployed by Reel Teaser Fishing Adventures last month.

If you’re planning to wet a line at the Exmouth or Broome FADs, we’d love you to take a photo with your catch and share it with us.
