Everyone’s a grinner! First winner of our Grins and Fins kids photo competition announced

A cracking Samson fish and an even bigger smile have earned 12-year-old Hendrix Yates a winning place in Recfishwest’s inaugural Grins and Fins round.

The Lesmurdie young gun landed the impressive Samson fish while trolling a Halco LaserPro 190 on 15kg gear off Port Denison in search of Spanish mackerel. His eye-catching fish – and accompanying smile – made him a standout winner, earning a fantastic prize pack of fishing gear.

Recfishwest Fishing Clinics Program Manager Sedin Hasanovic congratulates young angler Hendrix Yates with his own beaming grin and a fantastic fishing prize pack and plenty to smile about.

Supported by Healthway, our Grins and Fins kids photo competition, encourages young West Aussies to get outdoors, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the fun of fishing and its proven physical and wellbeing benefits.

The competition is all about celebrating kids and the joys of fishing, with winners picked every three months. Whether it’s a herring from a beach, squid from a jetty, or a trophy fish offshore – it’s about celebrating the smiles, memories, and experiences that fishing creates.

As a parent or guardian, you can enter a photo of your budding young fisho by submitting a snap of them fishing or showing off their latest catch.
