From great fish smashing baits to cricket balls being smashed on the beach – Recfishwest’s latest fishing clinic in Exmouth was a big hit for the northern Clontarf academies.
Run in collaboration with the Clontarf academies from Carnarvon, Karratha, Port Hedland and Newman and proudly supported by Woodside North West, Recfishwest’s fishing clinic in Exmouth marina coincided with Clontarf’s annual beach cricket carnival.
The diversity of Exmouth marina’s fish species was on show for the 65 kids wetting a line with plenty of tuskfish, rays, cod, Spanish flag, morwong and various emperor species putting a solid bend in rods.
Using Recfishwest’s fishing gear under the guidance of our experienced Operations Officers Sam Russell and Sedin Hasanovic, the clinic allowed the next generation of fishers from across the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions to further enhance their fishing and fish handling knowledge.
“These kids all love their fishing and come from regional communities where wetting a line forms a huge part of the social lifestyle, so their environmental knowledge was very impressive along with the species being caught,” said Recfishwest Senior Operations Officer Sam Russell.
“To round out a top fishing session they had a great beach cricket carnival – so they got to combine two of the quintessential West Aussie summer experiences for a perfect day.
“A big Recfishwest thanks to the Clontarf academies and to Woodside North West for supporting such a memorable experience for these kids.”
