Get Reel 2025 fishing competition rocks Two Rocks with a big turnout and cracking prizes!

Back by popular demand, the Get Reel fishing competition in Two Rocks saw a fantastic turn-out and plenty of great captures.

Recfishwest proudly supported and sponsored this vibrant community event – a superb showcase for fishing in our northern metro region, with thousands of families, kids, fishers and community members turning up to take in the festivities and swing by our stand to have a yarn about fishing.

Presented by Atlantis Beach with the support of Channel 7 and a score of other sponsors, more than 50 boats ducked out to chase popular species off our metro coastline for a chance to win some impressive prize packs. Meanwhile, more than a hundred adult fishers and kids took part in the land-based section of the event.

Our Recfishwest crew was kept busy throughout the day, chatting with hundreds of people and listening to their thoughts on important topics such as the proposed Marmion Marine Park extension, demersal fishing, rock lobster and much more.

Recfishwest Cast of Thousands stubby holders, stickers and hats also went down a storm and dozens signed up as Recfishwest members.

Communications Lead Ben Carlish said, “What a fantastic event – it just goes to show how fishing is such a huge part of this lively community!

“It was great to get to talk to so many people passionate about fishing and we were super-proud to be able to support this year’s event. Our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the event organisers for putting on such a memorable day.

“We’re already looking forward to being involved in next year’s event – already a must-go-to in the northern suburbs community calendar!”

The Recfishwest crew were kept busy engaging with hundreds of fishers on Saturday at Get Reel, with some top prizes up for grabs for landing popular nearshore species.

Recfishwest chipped in $2,000 worth of boat fishing prizes for those targeting nearshore favourites like skippy, herring and whiting.

The lucky boat fishers who each went home with some wicked Assassin/Vexed prize packs included Jack Ettia (herring), James Close (whiting), and Johnny Rhodes (skippy), with the trio now proud owners of a Vexed tackle bag full of goodies and Assassin rods!

The demersal prize was won by Hamish (no surname given!), with senior shore whiting going to Nathan Trevan and Richard Le picking up the senior herring shore prize.

Meanwhile in the junior section, Ollie Buswell took out the whiting prize, while Caleb Roberts grabbed the prize for herring.

All categories were for mystery length fish, giving everyone a chance who caught a fish to get among the prizes.

Speaking to Recfishwest at the event, Mark Lecras, who spent much of his childhood fishing around Two Rocks, said, “There’s thousands of people here and I could see a lot of kids enjoying fishing off the rockwall for a crack at some of the prizes on offer, it’s just a great community event and it’s definitely the biggest turnout I’ve seen here over the years.”

A big thanks to the hundreds of people who paid a visit to the Recfishwest stand during the day and we look forward to returning to Get Reel in 2026!
