We recently held our 2025 Annual General Meeting and reflected on the highlights and achievements in WA fishing and the WA fishing community in FY 2024/2025.
Joining us were dozens of tackle store owners, fishing club members and passionate recreational fishers, who came down for a yarn and to hear how we’ve worked hard to ensure fishing in WA continues to be accessible, sustainable and enjoyable for the 750,000+ strong fishing community.

Included in our reflection of the year was noting particular highlights, along with honouring those who have made significant contributions to making fishing better across the State. Recfishwest CEO Dr Andrew Rowland paid tribute to Recfishwest Life Member – the late Norm Halse who sadly recently passed away after a full and long life serving WA fishing – you can read Norm’s vale here.
Andrew also bestowed Recfishwest life membership on former Recfishwest CEO Frank Prokop.
Frank’s leadership, vision, and tireless advocacy were instrumental in transforming Recfishwest into the respected and trusted voice for Western Australian fishers.
As a Recfishwest member and a long-term host of the 6PR Boat, Dive and Fishing Show, Frank has given recreational fishing and Recfishwest a strong and relatable public voice. He consistently used that platform to promote sustainable fishing, share community stories, and explain policy issues in a way that built public understanding and support.
“Under his leadership, Recfishwest launched enduring programs such as the Recfishwest Fishing Clinics, introduced thousands of kids and adults to fishing, and led significant initiatives including the Lake Kununurra Barramundi Stocking Project, which helped turn it into the world-class fishery it is today,” said Recfishwest CEO Dr Andrew Rowland.
“Both Frank and Norm have been spearheads in improving recreational fishing across WA for decades and Recfishwest tips our hat in paying our respects and saying thankyou to both.”
