Recfishwest is Western Australia’s peak body for recreational fishing, working to ensure great fishing experiences for the community while protecting and enhancing the fisheries that support them. Our Board provides the governance, strategic direction and oversight that supports this work.
The Recfishwest Board of Management comprises eight Directors of which:
- Five Directors are elected from the Membership;
- Three Directors are appointed based on expertise.
At the 2026 AGM, vacancies will exist for three Directors elected from the membership to hold office for a term of two years.
Directors whose terms expire are eligible to seek re-election.
We welcome potential nominees from a range of professional and community backgrounds, including science, business, governance, policy, community leadership and recreational fishing.
The Board’s current skills assessment has identified science and research as a priority gap, and we particularly encourage nominations from people with that background. We also welcome emerging and younger leaders who can bring new perspectives to the Board.
What we are looking for
Directors are expected to understand and uphold their governance and fiduciary responsibilities, act in Recfishwest’s best interests, and contribute constructively to collective Board decision-making.
Attributes that would be valuable include:
- strategic thinking, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively, considering different perspectives;
- scientific, governance, business, policy or community leadership experience;
- financial literacy, commercial acumen and risk, audit and compliance experience;
- advocacy, government relations and stakeholder engagement, including communications, media and marketing capability; and
- a genuine commitment to recreational fishing and healthy, sustainable fisheries.
We are also keen to hear from candidates who broaden the perspectives around the Board table, including people based in regional and remote Western Australia.
Nomination Process:
Only financial members are eligible to stand as Directors or vote at any General Meeting. Review, and renew if necessary, your membership status by logging into our membership platform here.

A Member intending to nominate for an elected director position is required to give notice to the CEO of Recfishwest in writing on the nomination form here.
Nomination forms must reach the Recfishwest office on or before Thursday, 1 October, 2026 and should be submitted either:
- By email to info@recfishwest.org.au and marked ‘APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR”; or,
- By post to: Chief Executive Officer, Recfishwest, Suite 3/45 Northside Drive, Hillarys, WA, 6025.
