Dion’s delighted after snaring hard-fought fourth phase of Salmon Slam

Dion Damon simply loves salmon fishing.

The Rockingham local has ventured to Yeagerup, south of Augusta, on multiple occasions this autumn in pursuit of the iconic southern sportfish.

While he hasn’t encountered too many large schools, Dion’s commitment to chasing salmon has paid huge dividends after he took out the fourth phase of the 2021 Salmon Slam competition.

For Dion Damon, nothing beats WA’s annual salmon run!

Dion posted a terrific score of 3,340mm with his top-four longest salmon – measuring 850mm, 840mm, 830mm and 820mm – caught during his most recent adventure to Yeagerup.

The total proved too much for second place-getter Jason Woonings (3,160mm) and Justin Cooling (3,140mm), who rounded at the top three.

Victorious fourth phase

“I really do love fishing for salmon,” Dion told Recfishwest.

“We haven’t seen big schools come through Yeagerup yet this season, but we’ve definitely been catching the occasional salmon.

“To win the latest Salmon Slam phase is amazing – it has made my day, it really has.”

Dion walks away with a Shimano Saragosa 5000 reel, a Shimano Coltsniper 10ft rod, a $250 Penn Tackle pack, a $50 Early Bird Bait voucher and a $100 voucher to Midland 4WD Centre for the win.

Once again, Recfishwest would like to thank Shimano, Penn Tackle, Midland 4WD Centre and Early Bird Bait for sponsoring the fantastic prizes.

The support of the sponsors is what helps make the Salmon Slam such a great competition.
