Apply for Round 12 of Recfishwest’s Community Grants program

Community groups can achieve amazing things, especially with a little support.

And, with Round 12 of the Recfishwest Community Grants program now open, support is available for community-driven fishing projects to help make fishing in WA even better.

From clean-up days, to kids’ fishing clinics, equipment upgrades or safety training, the program has provided supported more than 180 community projects since 2011.

Funded through the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund (RFIF) and supported by DPIRD, this great program has helped fishing clubs and other groups achieve terrific results to propel WA recfishing forward in years gone past.

A community grant helped WA Undersea Club convene the largest all women spearfishing meeting ever held in Australia.

This includes supporting a series of WA Undersea Club (WAUC) events introducing women to spearfishing.

The community grants program also supports Kalbarri Offshore and Angling Club’s annual Kids Whiting Comp, held during the October school holidays, which usually attracts more than 300 children.

The Kalbarri Offshore and Angling Club’s Kalbarri Kids Whiting comp is a great example of the community grant program’s benefits, with up to 300 kids taking part each year.

It’s great community-oriented events like these that the community grants program benefits, Recfishwest CEO Dr Andrew Rowland said.

“Whether you’re involved with a community group, fishing club or local business, we encourage all community members to apply,” Dr Rowland said.

“We wanted to let you, our valued members, know first because we’re keen to hear what projects or events you’ve got in mind.

“Also, if you have a great idea for a grant which could benefit fishing but don’t have time to undertake a project, please let us know and we can find a suitable group that may be interested.

“Applications close on 1 October. We look forward to hearing from you.”
