Making the Salmon Slam a slammin’ success!

Thanks to all of you who’ve already signed up to our inaugural three-month long free Salmon Fishing comp – the Salmon Slam 2020 – and downloaded the app either in iOS or Android formats.

As this is the first year of attempting a comp on this scale and we’re on a steep learning curve, we want to make sure we are doing everything we can to make the comp experience as great as possible for you.

We also want to establish this comp as a regular fixture on the fishing calendar going forward as we believe salmon fishing is a truly iconic WA experience and should be celebrated every year. The fantastic response the comp has already prompted from you has shown there is a demand for this.

Zane Marwick with one of the very first salmon to be caught and entered into the Salmon Slam comp – he now has the chance to win a Seajay dinghy valued at $9k as the top prize out of a swag of super hot fishing prizes to win.

So please click here to provide us with any feedback you might have for us whether it’s about any glitches with the app, anything that’s not clear in the rules or anything about how we can improve the competition to make it even better.

Here’s a couple of pointers for you on a couple of issues that comp participants have:

  • To get the latest code to include alongside your fish to enter your fish into the comp, either go to your notifications on the app which can be found by tapping on the Record Catch button or visit the Salmon Slam page on our website or look out for posts with latest code on Recfishwest’s Facebook page.
  • To prove the catch has been caught within the competition timeframe, pictures of captures with the code added in using picture editing features will not be accepted.
  • If you don’t have a smartphone and you still want to enter the comp, email photos of your fish capture alongside the latest code via email to info@recfishwest.org.au entering ‘Salmon Slam entry’ and the latest code number.
This shows how to measure, photo and enter your catch placing the code next to the salmon – you can write it in the sand, on a piece of cardboard or on your measuring board. Doing it this way allows you to release your catch if you choose.

We’re sure you’ll agree the prize pool for the comp is looking mouth-watering and the app-based approach to the comp is one that allows anyone to enter and gives fishers entering their catches the option of catching and releasing their fish if they choose. But we, of course, always strive to make your fishing experience even better so help us make the Slam one of the greatest fishing comps in Australia and….why not…the world!

Good luck for the comp, we hope you get amongst ‘em!
