Swanfish 2016 is being held on the weekend of February 27-28 and will once again offer plenty for all levels of fishers.

Swanfish is again proudly supported by Getaway Outdoors, The Sunday Times, Ugly Stik, the Swan River Trust and Fish and Survive.

We joined forces with the hard-working volunteers from the Melville club in 2014 and this will be our third Swanfish together.

Swanfish has been running for almost 30 years, but continues to evolve and there will be an increased emphasis on catch and release fishing at this years’ event, with an expanded ‘catch, click and release’ section to help ensure the sustainability of fish populations in the metro rivers. The catch, click and release category introduced at last year’s event and was a huge hit, especially with families and kids, and allows fishers to take a photo of their fish, send it in and release the fish back into the water.

More information can be found at the Swanfish website, www.swanfish.com.au or at the event’s Facebook page.

The cost to enter is $20 for adults, and $10 for anglers under the age of 16 and pension card holders, with registrations (from 9am on the 21st) and the weigh-in at McCallum Park.

Early birds are encouraged to register online at swanfish.com.au as this makes the process quicker come registration day, meaning more time fishing!

Even if you’re an unlucky fisher on the weekend, there will be plenty of spot prizes, raffles and giveaways at the Sunday weigh-in.

There’s also food available, including a Melville Amateur Angling Club sausage sizzle, a kids casting competition and lots of other fun activities.

As always, there are a stack of categories up for grabs, and just participating qualifies anglers for some great prizes.

Remember you don’t need to be a expert fisher to join in the fun and it’s a great chance to get the whole family out of the house and enjoy great fishing on the doorstep of our capital city.
