Recfishwest’s SunSmart Regional Fishing Clinic Tours for Kids

*(see below for tour dates)

Fishing is one of the most popular pastimes in WA with one-third of the WA community fishing at least once a year. Fishing brings multiple benefits back to the community including access to safe outdoor enjoyment, a source of sustainable seafood and an injection of millions of dollars into the local economy every year. Fishing boosts tourism to regional WA towns and supports environmental initiatives to improve the places where fish are caught.

Recfishwest believes in sustainable fishing for the future and encourages active participation from new and future generations of Western Australian fishers. As a result, Recfishwest runs SunSmart Community Fishing Clinics, a tour of regional centres around WA to teach and promote safe and sustainable fishing to kids.

All kids are welcome to participate and register for the community clinics, with successful clinics held this year already at Bremer Bay on the south coast and Busselton in the south-west. These clinics had fantastic results with beaches and jetties full of hundreds of excited kids and their proud parents’ on looking as many catch their first fish!

This is an opportunity for kids and their families to get outdoors to experience what WA fishing has to offer while practising the important SunSmart messages of Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide and Seek.

Recfishwest’s Fishing Clinic Coordinator, Bronte Nardi, said the Recfishwest SunSmart Fishing Clinics are a huge hit, especially in regional towns.

“Our purpose built fishing clinic trailer has been delivering community Recfishwest SunSmart Fishing Clinics to the kids of WA for over a decade now and more importantly there’s no sign of this trend slowing and we’ll be on the road again over the coming months,” Bronte said.

“Recfishwest’s SunSmart Fishing Clinic instructors are the best in the state. They’re passionate about what they do and deliver professional clinics with every kid coming out of it having had an enjoyable and memorable experience.”
