Recfishwest’s reference groups are designed to attract recreational fishers who have a great deal of expertise in specific fisheries. Recfishwest utilises the knowledge that these groups provide to guide Board decisions and help in identifying strategic goals for particular fisheries.
We have had great success with our Western Rock Lobster Reference Group who added valuable input and weight to discussions on reaching the recreational catch allocation for rock lobster.
Our Freshwater Fisheries Reference Group provides advice on stocking and habitat management for trout and marron in Western Australia.
To be on a reference group you don’t need have a science degree, all you need is a significant level of hands-on experience in your particular fishery of interest.
Recfishwest is looking to form the following Reference Groups over the coming months;
- Demersal finfish
- Blue swimmer crabs
- Club and association development
More reference groups will be formed on a needs-be basis as issues arise, and these may only operate until such time as the issue has been dealt with effectively. Positions will be advertised in the Sunday Times, on this web page and through our e-newsletter.
The term of office for positions on the Reference Groups is three years. If you wish to express your interest for any of the above Reference Groups, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be placed on the waiting list for those groups which are already full and notified when positions become vacant.
